Hey hey, firstly it's good to see lively debate going on but we need to stop the personal attacks.

You are both intelligent and scholarly gentlemen and well worth listening to but of course opinions clash and that is why we need to discuss things with tact.

The good news is we are not all studying the same things, otherwise it would be a boring world, so we can still learn from each other.

Let's get on topic and broaden our outlook together guys.

...

I'm working through the tutorials over at GTGD S1.1 The Beginning - Unity Multiplayer Tutorial which is taking a while to get through. But I enjoy taking a rest from the Unity3D development to read both your comments daily.

Let's get on topic..

Agree. If thread hijack isn't confronted on my very first discussion topic.. then i see no point being here. And Horry seems unwilling to heed this point, which i've been super clear about in each post i've made so far. His last post ignores again this basic principle of web-netiquette.

Sir Gilligan has many topics here about UFOs, Aliens, Zionists, and such. Turning my NSA (whistleblower) topic into his UFO soap box is not appropriate behavior. Nor is suddenly bringing my personal life into this with false "facts" which he knows are untrue, knows nothing about, or are irrelevant to the discussion, which i am then forced to defend.

NSA head admits the agency made “huge set of mistakes” in 2009.

“When the president first came on board, we had a huge set of mistakes that we were working through in 2009,”. “He said essentially, ‘I can see the value of these, but how do we ensure that we get these within compliance and that everything is exactly right?'"

At the president’s direction, the NSA then set up a “directorate of compliance,” an internal watchdog group to make sure that it wasn’t over-collecting and stayed within the confines of the law.

"There's no central method to search an email at this time with the way our records are set up, unfortunately," NSA Freedom of Information Act officer Cindy Blacker told me last week.

"This is the reality of the NSA spying programs: Aside from Snowden’s leaks, we only know what the government is telling us.
Of course, that’s always the case with intelligence operations. What’s scarier is that the oversight bodies only know what
the government is telling them, too.
"

The FISC is forced to rely upon the accuracy of the information that is provided to the Court. The FISC does not have the
capacity to investigate issues of noncompliance, and in that respect the FISC is in the same position as any other court when
it comes to enforcing [government] compliance with its orders.

In one instance, the NSA decided that it need not report the unintended surveillance of Americans. A notable example in 2008
was the interception of a ‘large number’ of calls placed from Washington when a programming error confused the U.S. area
code 202 for 20, the international dialing code for Egypt.”

(admin note; move thread to NSA section?)

Below is a fairly obvious description of NSA standard procedure.

Tech firms including Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and Microsoft received money from the National Security Agency to cover legal-compliance costs.

"An NSA newsletter entry, marked top secret and dated December 2012, discloses the huge costs [the NSA compliance effort] entailed.
"Last year's problems resulted in multiple extensions to the certifications' expiration dates which cost millions of dollars for Prism providers to
implement each successive extension -- costs covered by Special Source Operations
," it says."

"Government and industry have betrayed the internet, and us.

By subverting the internet at every level to make it a vast, multi-layered and robust surveillance platform, the NSA has undermined a fundamental social contract. The companies that build and manage our internet infrastructure, the companies that create and sell us our hardware and software, or the companies that host our data: we can no longer trust them to be ethical internet stewards.

This is not the internet the world needs, or the internet its creators envisioned. We need to take it back. And by we, I mean the engineering community."

"The agency, according to the documents and interviews with industry officials, deployed custom-built, superfast computers to break codes, and began collaborating with technology companies in the United States and abroad to build entry points into their products. The documents do not identify which companies have participated.

The N.S.A. hacked into target computers to snare messages before they were encrypted. In some cases, companies say they were coerced by the government into handing over their master encryption keys or building in a back door. And the agency used its influence as the world’s most experienced code maker to covertly introduce weaknesses into the encryption standards followed by hardware and software developers around the world."

Thanks for all the updates Dredd (hm, where have I seen that nick before?)

It explains the U.S. stance on encryption generally:

http://encryption_policies.tripod.com/industry/matlick_010399_harm.htm

or better yet, get the taxpayers to pay to be spied on:

I've been coding for about 6 weeks straight without a break to create a new graphics program which is now finished. In a couple of days you can check out the details on MeshMaker.com
